CHAPTER TWO
~ Tap Dancing Toes and Veils of Lace ~

...A royal fanfare...
The presentation of the Princess Pashzmeenie began with the symbolic salute of The Royal Harolds (cousins two)... a fanfare written just for her. For the remainder of her life, this exaltant and glorious music was played whenever the princess entered a public room or gathering.
...A hush fell over the crowd...
The sun sank low in the western sky as the fanfare rang out and the royal family stepped onto the balcony before the hushed and waiting crowd. All eyes were on the tiny bundle cradled within the arms of the King.
...The presentation...
The voice of The Royal Steward, Stu, proclaimed, "Pashzmeenie, Princess Royal, Baroness of Brie, Countess of Camembert, Her Grace of Gouda, The Lady of Limburger... destined to inherit the royal throne of the House of Fromage!" (That means cheese!)
...Fireworks...
The last rays of the sun reached out to touch the sleeping babe. Her father raised her high, a mighty shout rose up from the crowd, and the sky exploded in a shower of brilliance, as firework embers drifted earthward on the arms of the wind.
...A shocking sight!...
All through the night there was feasting on the castle grounds, but inside the King and Queen paced the royal chambers as they sought a solution to their problem. Shocked at their first sight of the Princess, they had waited in vain for the bumpy rash that covered every part of her body... except her eyes, fingers and toes... to fade away.
...Pimples of Puce!...
Instead, the bumps had grown to become distinct pimple-like growths the color of puce(that means brownish-purple... NOT green!); each one sprouting a yellow hair with a giant split end!
...A dancing princess...
So far, no one had seen her except for Nanny, and the King and Queen. She had been tightly bundled against the chill night air on the balcony, with nothing showing but her eyes. But this had been hard to do, for the little princess loved to wiggle her toes and move her legs. It was almost as if she were dancing!
...Veils of lace...
Dancing! That was the answer! Nanny was so excited that she could barely get the words out... the princesses of old had worn beautiful flowing gowns for dancing, with lovely hooded veils that left only the eyes showing! And the sleeves came to a graceful point that hooked over the finger, keeping the sleeve in place! It was the answer they'd been praying for!
...A new fashion...
The Queen ordered new gowns for herself and all of the court. The new fashion spread like wildfire through the land and all was well... for a time...
~ But then the lunacy took root ~
